A story about Where does rain come from?
for your 1st Grader.

Zippy Zapata stood on the tall mountain. He wore a bright robe and held his wand. Ember Flare, his dragon friend, played by his side. They both loved big puzzles and new places.

The sun was warm, but the ground was dry. Embers Flare looked up and said, “No rain? That is strange!” Birds sang gently, but the clouds stayed quiet.

Suddenly, they saw a small wooden box resting on a cloud. It looked like a puzzle box waiting to be opened. Zippy Zapata gasped in delight!

“Let’s see what’s inside,” said Zippy Zapata. He carefully lifted the lid. The box was filled with words and pictures. Each clue told a story about water!

Ember Flare pointed to a clue. It said clouds form when water from lakes and rivers goes into the air. Zippy Zapata read, “Water rises as vapor!”

They saw the mountains were thirsty. “We can share water with plants,” said Zippy Zapata gently. “Small drops help flowers stay strong!”

They studied the next clue. It said that water vapor gathers to make clouds. “So that’s how they get big!” whispered Zippy Zapata, sounding amazed.

Ember Flare looked up at the sky. “I see the clouds, but why no rain?” Zippy Zapata read on: “When the clouds grow heavy, they share water!”
