Zigzag Zander looks at the garden. The flowers are droopy. The grass is dry. "Oh no," says Zander. "The garden is thirsty!"
Blossom Sprout walks over. She has her little watering can. "The flowers need water," says Blossom. "But where does water come from?"
Zander points to the pond. The pond is blue and still. "Look!" says Zander. "Water starts here." Splish, splash! The pond is full of water.
The sun shines warm and bright. It warms the water in the pond. Up, up, up! Tiny drops of water float into the sky. Can you see them go up?
"Where do the drops go?" asks Blossom. Up, up, up — high into the sky! The tiny water drops are so small, you cannot see them. They become part of the air!
The tiny drops float up and up. It is cold way up high! The drops come together. They make a cloud! Big, puffy, white clouds. What shapes do you see?
More and more drops join the cloud. The cloud gets big. The cloud gets dark. It is full, full, full of water! "Look!" says Zander. "That cloud is so big!"
Drip. Drip. Drop! The cloud cannot hold the water anymore. Down, down, down comes the rain! Pitter-patter, pitter-patter! Rain falls on the garden.
"Rain!" cheers Blossom. But oh! The rain is cold and wet. "Let us find a cozy spot," says Blossom. "We can wait here and stay dry." Sometimes when it rains, we wait. And that is okay.
Zander and Blossom sit together under the big green leaf. They listen to the rain. Pitter-patter, pitter-patter. "Be patient," says Zander. "The rain will stop soon." They feel warm and cozy side by side.
The rain stops. Drip... drip... done! The sun peeks out again. The flowers stand up tall. They are not thirsty anymore! The garden is happy. "We did it!" says Blossom. "Well, the rain did it," laughs Zander.
Zander looks at a tiny puddle. Blossom looks at a little green sprout pushing up from the wet soil. Tomorrow there will be puddles to splash in. Tomorrow there will be new flowers to grow. And one day, the water will go up, up, up again. Goodnight, garden.
