Cactus Cody and Nessie Sparkles on the Sleepy Trail

A story about Nap Time
for your 1st Grader.

It is hot in the Wild West. The golden sand shimmers under the bright sun. Cactus Cody wears a big hat and boots.

Nessie Sparkles is a shimmering Loch Ness Monster. She is curious about every new rock and every tall cactus flower. She wiggles her fins in excitement.

A giant red cactus flower stands proudly by the trail. Its petals glow in the bright sunlight. It smells sweet like fresh honey.

Cactus Cody lifts the reins and calls, “Let’s ride, partner!” He loves to trot across the wild land on his trusty horse.

For Nessie Sparkles, every corner hides a new treasure. She stretches her neck to see beyond the next sandy hill and waves her tail with joy.

A wooden sign stands at the edge of a small town. Letters carved in the wood say, “Welcome to Sleepy Gulch.” The sign is faded from the sun.

Cactus Cody feels his eyes grow heavy. He rubs them and yawns. “Ain’t no shame in needing rest,” he says softly.

Nessie Sparkles drifts closer to a quiet stream. She feels her fins slow down. She wonders if a short nap might help.
